In the Rheinland Pfalz region of Germany lies a quaint farm. A farm that opens its doors once a year during the Fall season for its annual Pumpkin farm displays and events. It features some of the most impressive-looking pumpkins, many other gourds, and the not to miss pumpkin delicacies. Hitscherhof Farm is a farm we frequent yearly (this will be our fourth year coming) and is the perfect, charming farm for your annual Fall visits in Rheinland Pfalz, and here is why.
Hitscherhof Farm
Located in Massweiler, Germany, Hitscherhof Farm highlights the Fall season every year for people to enjoy all things pumpkin and Fall. Beginning mid-September (September 19, 2023 for this year), Hitscherhof Farms opens its door for its Fall Fests until October 31, 2023. At one point, before the pandemic, there used to be a pumpkin festival that would take place for one weekend, but I have yet to hear of the festival returning after the pandemic died down. However, it’s still fun to visit Hitscherhof Farm with its many activities, events, food, and seasonal goods you can buy from their store.
What Can You Expect at Hitscherhof Farm
At Hitscherhof Farm, you’ll find tons of activities to do daily (except on Mondays) from mid-September till October 31. The farm showcases many gourds and colorful pumpkins for people to choose from, as well as a magnificent display of some of the largest pumpkins grown.

On the property, you’ll also find many kid-friendly activities, such as a small corn maze, a bounce house, and small hay bales children can play on for a small fee of €2. My favorite thing to find was their small pick-your-own flower field on site, where you pay for your hand-picked flowers via the honor system.

The shop is also full of local goods, from locally grown pumpkins and gourds to homemade pumpkin butter and other jellies, as well as pumpkin syrup, pumpkin pancake mix, the well-loved pumpkin secco, and more.

Finally, the best part about our visits are the food. The farm offers food on-site where you can order all of their Fall specialty menu items. The menu includes pumpkin bratwursts, salads, pumpkin waffles with pumpkin syrup, pumpkin secco, and more. But the star of the menu is their famed Hitscherhof Pumpkin Soup, which you do not want to miss. This is by far the best pumpkin soup I have ever tasted, and we have tasted quite a few in Germany. The recipe is authentic and delicious, served with fresh brot (bread). You can enjoy your meal either inside the barn or outside among the picnic tables. P.S. you can find my recipe here, inspired by Hitscherhof’s pumpkin recipe.

Additionally, the atmosphere is also a bonus. Though the Farm can get crowded, on days when it is not crowded, it’s quite fun to enjoy the Fall ambiance around the Farm with family and friends, especially when the weather outside is nice.
